Panorama-to-World

Turn an existing 360° panorama into a fully navigable 3D world. Skips the image-to-panorama step, so generation is the fastest of the three creation modes.

How It Works

  1. Drop a 360° equirectangular panorama into the create page (same upload zone as a regular image)
  2. SpAItial detects the 2:1 panorama aspect ratio and switches into panorama mode
  3. The image preview opens in a 360° viewer so you can look around before generating
  4. Click Create world from pano to start generation
  5. Explore and refine the result with the standard editing tools

Panorama Requirements

Format

  • Equirectangular projection with a 2:1 aspect ratio (e.g. 4096×2048, 6144×3072)
  • JPG, PNG, or WebP

Resolution

  • Minimum width: 2048 pixels (auto-detection threshold)
  • Higher resolution produces sharper results

Size

  • Maximum file size: 25 MB

If a 2:1 image is uploaded but you intended a flat image, use the Use as image link on the preview to override the auto-detection.

Capturing or Sourcing Panoramas

Any source that produces a true equirectangular projection will work:

  • 360° cameras: Insta360, Ricoh Theta, GoPro Max, and similar
  • Phone panorama-stitching apps: Google Street View, Hugin, or any app that exports a full 360°×180° equirectangular image
  • 3D renders: Blender, Unreal, Unity panoramic exports
  • AI-generated panoramas: any model that outputs equirectangular 2:1 images

When to Use Panorama-to-World

  • You already have a 360° capture of a real space (apartments, venues, retail, exhibits)
  • You want the fastest generation path — typically 4–6 minutes vs 6–8 minutes for text or image inputs
  • You want the generated world to closely match a specific real-world location rather than an AI-imagined interpretation

Limitations

  • The image must be a true equirectangular 2:1 projection — partial or cylindrical panoramas won't be detected as a panorama
  • Stitching seams, lens distortion, or visible tripods in the source carry through into the world
  • Panorama inputs can be previewed in 360° but not prompt-refined before generation — prompt-based edits only apply once the world is created

Tips

  • Capture from chest height in the center of the space for the most natural-feeling result
  • Keep the camera level — a tilted horizon will tilt the entire generated world
  • Avoid heavy foreground occlusions (a hand, a strap, a person right next to the camera)
  • Use the in-page 360° preview to spot stitching issues before spending a generation
